About the agency: Island County Public Health protects and improves the health of Island County residents by focusing on environmental health (water/septic, food safety), community health (disease prevention, maternal/child health, nutrition), data assessment (tracking trends, disparities), and emergency preparedness.


As a Bilingual Engagement Consultant, I managed and developed Spanish-language communication initiatives across digital and community outreach channels, including:

While some materials originated from external agencies, I created original graphics, campaigns, captions, and culturally tailored content specifically for Spanish-speaking audiences.
Project context:
Island County Public Health needed more accessible and culturally appropriate communication for Spanish-speaking residents. The goal was not only to translate information, but to create outreach that felt understandable, relevant, and trustworthy for the Latino community.
To better understand community needs, I independently developed and conducted an initial survey and focus group with 30+ Latino residents. The findings helped shape communication strategies, preferred platforms, and health topics prioritized throughout the project.

One of the projects I’m most proud of was the development and promotion of a bilingual children’s book focused on oral health education: Smiley the Dentist Mouse / Smiley la Ratona Dentista.
